Four family members perished in a head-on collision involving their car and a school bus in rural southeastern North Carolina on Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

Brunswick County Sheriff John Ingram said the crash took place on Camp Branch Road, near Highway 211, northeast of Supply, NBC station WECT of Wilmington reported.

Trooper Greg Steffens told the Wilmington Star News that the four dead were Joshua S. Williams, 31, his wife, Brandy N. Williams, 30, and their children Gavin L. Williams, 6, and Joshua K. Williams, 9. Steffens said the family lived on Green Swamp Road in Ash.

The only student on the bus and the driver, Connie Russ, suffered minor injuries and were taken to a hospital for treatment, Steffens said.

Steffens said the car apparently crossed the center line of the road and struck the bus from Waccamaw Elementary School bus in Ash, but troopers were continuing to investigate the accident details.
