The launch occurred on March 9, 2011 from the U.S. Navy's Pacific Missile Range Facility/Kauai Test Facility, and is reported to have achieved all major test objectives. Wayne Montag, RSS' Technical Director, said, "This was the second in a series of increasingly complex missions and we are extremely gratified to see all of our hard work pay off. Our extensive participation in the development of the ARAV-C's separation systems, instrumentation, and vehicle support module structures validates the increase in capability that we have been carefully building. We have assembled a very talented group of young engineers and technicians who will assure our continuing success well into the foreseeable future."
Dave Carter, President of Kratos' Defense Engineering Solutions Division, stated, "This very successful launch also represents the maiden flight of a newly developed and configured rocket system nose cone which is mission specific, based on our customer's threat representation and other requirements. The ARAV-C represents a significant advance in threat surrogate capability which will be increasingly useful to the U.S. Navy and our allies to exercise and validate sea-based Ballistic Missile Defense capabilities. As with all of our launches, we could not have achieved this level of success without the continuing partnership with, and the cooperation of the White Sands Missile Range Detachment of the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Port Hueneme Division, the Missile Defense Agency, and the other industry members of the ARAV Team."
Eric DeMarco, Kratos' President and Chief Executive Officer, said, "The entire Kratos organization is proud of our RSS team and their continued support of vital missile defense related missions. The Kratos employees, including the RSS team are dedicated to this country's National Security, and we look forward to continuing to meet and exceed the requirements of the Aegis Program and Missile Defense Agency partners through the on-time/on-budget delivery of cost-effective and affordable mission-capable ARAV systems."
