Firefox Update Eliminates Two Threats

Mozilla's has issued a security update for its Firefox 4 Web browser, saying it has fixed two crucial security flaws.

Issued April 28, the update bumped Firefox up to version 4.0.1. In the process, Mozilla took care of two bundles of malicious code that could have been remotely exploited to bypass computers' security features and used in attacks, the company announced in a blog.

One of the flaws, the security firm Sophos pointed out, was specifically engineered to target Firefox users on Mac's OS X operating system.

"Apple users who imagine themselves invulnerable simply by virtue of their choice of operating system, please take note," Sophos' Paul Ducklin wrote.

Firefox is by configured to automatically check for updates, but users can manually update to Firefox 4.0.1 by clicking "Firefox" on the browser's menu bar, then selecting "About Firefox." A software update page will appear, and users can click on "Get the New Version."
