The company's latest version of its PowerView Pro remote-management software gives network administrators a seamless, transparent solution for ensuring that Microsemi's PowerDsine midspans can support the Internet's next-generation addressing technology.

IPv6 is the next-generation Internet Protocol (IP) address standard intended to supplement, and eventually replace, the IPv4 protocol that most Internet networks use today. IPv6 tackles some of IPv4's shortcomings -- most notably, a limited amount of remaining addresses -- by extending IP address field size from 32 bits to 128 bits. In January 2011, the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) announced the depletion of free IPv4 address blocks, and said that all future allocations will be for IPv6 addresses.
