/ Source: GlobeNewswire

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., June 6, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Informatica Corporation (NASDAQ: INFA), the world’s number one independent leader in data integration software, today announced the opening of a major new "Big Data" mall on the Informatica Marketplace, an online community of more than 125,000 active data integration users and developers. The announcement was made in conjunction with the Informatica 9.1 for Big Data launch event.

The Informatica Marketplace provides a forum that connects buyers and sellers together in order to leverage solutions and services that augment, extend, or enhance data integration implementations.  These solutions are called Marketplace "Blocks" which are evaluated by Informatica before being placed on the Marketplace. Within the Informatica Marketplace are specialized Malls, which are collections of Blocks grouped around specific market needs such as Cloud Integration, Debugging and Productivity Tools, and now Big Data.

"The Big Data Mall is a focal point for the industry in addressing the challenges and opportunities in Big Data," said Tony Young, chief information officer, Informatica. "The new Mall debuts with 40 Blocks from Informatica and other leading vendors that map to the three major technology trends that define Big Data -  Big Transaction Data, Big Interaction Data and Big Data Processing. New Blocks will be added going forward, as more and more innovative solutions emerge from the industry around Big Data."

Blocks for Big Transaction Data

Big Transaction Data represents the massive growth in transaction data volumes. The Big Data Mall offers Blocks designed for:

  • Transaction data processing - Blocks are available to help users efficiently leverage burgeoning volumes of data from traditional OLTP relational databases such as Teradata and Oracle. Similarly, Blocks for connectivity to large ERP and CRM applications such as Siebel and SAP, as well as mainframe systems such as VSAM, IMS, and IBM DB2, are available.
  • Transaction data analytics - Blocks are available that support connectivity to emerging built-for-purpose analytic relational databases such as ParAccel and IBM Netezza.

"As leading enterprises increasingly demonstrate, the ability to harness the data in Big Data applications can result in big business insights and big competitive advantages," said Murali Krishnam, Practice Area Leader, Saama Technologies, Inc. "Using Informatica technology to extract and integrate data from these applications, Saama's Business Analytics solutions help companies leverage Big Data for actionable intelligence, while our data connectors for Big Data help accelerate the process and time-to-value of data integration. We see Informatica’s Big Data Mall as a magnet for Big Data stakeholders, and thus a valuable channel for our solutions."

Blocks for Big Interaction Data

Big Interaction Data is fueled by explosive growth in interaction data from social media and sensor technologies. The Big Data Mall delivers Blocks designed specifically to help users extract intelligence from social and web data through analytics and sentiment analysis. These Blocks include solutions from Attensity - Attensity Respond and Attensity Respond for Social Media - and Expert Systems - Cogito Semantic Intelligence.

"Intelligence derived from interaction data is helping forward-looking companies make sales, increase customer loyalty, decrease service costs, improve compliance and reduce business costs," said Michelle DeHaaff, Attensity. "The Informatica Platform's ability to efficiently integrate and manage vast amounts of unstructured data dovetails perfectly with Attensity's Respond's ability to help organizations listen, analyze and act on customer interactions across multiple channels."

Blocks for Big Data Processing

Big Data Processing provides highly scalable processing using Hadoop open source technology.  The Big Data Mall features:

  • Adapters for various distributions of the Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS).
  • Blocks from companies that leverage Map Reduce/Hadoop technologies, including Cloudera Inc., the leading provider of Apache Hadoop-based data management software and services.
  • Blocks designed specifically to perform analytics from Big Data sources.

"Apache Hadoop delivers unprecedented flexibility, scalability and cost effectiveness to manage Big Data, and Informatica excels at data integration," said Charles Zedlewski, Vice President, Product, Cloudera Inc. "Cloudera’s Distribution including Apache Hadoop (CDH) is the leading open source system for Apache Hadoop based data management in the enterprise. We're pleased to make the complete system available for download via the Big Data Mall because we believe customers greatly benefit from the application of our combined technologies and a shared vision for leveraging Big Data."
