A llama and donkey were killed and another donkey was shot multiple times early Thursday morning, according to the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office.
Wilber Kennedy owns the pasture and the livestock at Racetrack Road and Brown Kennedy Road in Woodruff.
Neighbor Kenneth Evers said that he heard many gunshots just after midnight. Evers said he thought it was firecrackers at first, but then realized it was gunfire. He said the gun was fired 15 to 20 times from what he thought was a slow-moving car on Racetrack Road. He said he didn't see the vehicle, but it had a loud muffler. Evers said he stepped out on his front porch and heard 15 to 20 more rapid-fire shots come from the area where the llama was later found dead.
Evers said he did not see the dead animals until morning, and then he told Kennedy what had happened.
A llama and a donkey were dead at the scene. Another donkey was shot several times, but was still alive. It was not immediately known if the donkey survived.
Kennedy said the dead animals were valued at about $2,200.
