CORRECTION: Though the card we received did not specify, the offer is only for a single cafe chain in New York City.
To make up for any confusion, LevelUp will provide $10 credit to anyone who enters the promo code "technewsdaily," when signing up on the Web site.
There is, in fact, such thing as a free lunch, at least when a mobile payment company wants to promote its app.
LevelUp, an app for iPhones and Android phones is offering $10 credit today for people who sign up with the app.
The payment process is simple. You register your credit card with the app — either by typing in the details or scanning it with your smartphone's camera. Then, when you want to pay, you just launch the app, which displays a QR code, and hand it to the cashier who scans it.
LevelUp is appearing in more and more restaurants, delis and other stores, at least in major cities. So you have a decent chance of finding somewhere to use it.
And you don't strictly have to use it for lunch. We were hungry in the morning, so we got an energy bar. And you could use it for a piece of pizza or a burrito on the way home, too.
