CanvasPop has launched LTD., a flash sale site featuring top Instagram photographers for a limited time. We're not talking about your cousin's shutterbug nephew, but recognized photographers that use Instagram as a venue for their work.
The first flash sale features the photography of Cole Rise, the creator of Instagram's "Rise" filter and designer of the Instagram logo. Cole has more than 235,000 Instagram followers. In Rise's words, "CanvasPop gives credence to mobile photography as an art form." Artists must apply to CanvasPop to be featured on the site.
Buyers receive a numbered print and pay $49 for a 12-inch square photo printed giclée archival quality canvas with 1.5-inch deep stretchers. Larger 20-inch square prints run $99.
CanvasPop co-founder Adrian Salamunovic says his concept is really based on fear. "If you like it, buy it at a great price or it will be gone," Salamunovic said in a statement. "It’s really powered by the fear of missing out."
Sales last from five to seven days and feature a single photograph from one artist. Until recently, CanvasPop offered only print-on-demand services for people who wanted to turn their own Instagram photos into wall-ready art.
On deck for the next flash sales are photographers Lauren Lemon (also known as Lauren Randolph) and Pulitzer Prize-winner Richard “Koci” Hernandez.
