Hours after Warner Bros. announced that Ben Affleck would be donning Batman’s cape and cowl in the “Man of Steel” sequel, Senator Patrick Leahy has weighed in.
Ben’s a great pick for #Batman & a New Englander to boot. I guess that means I’m out of the running…— Sen. Patrick Leahy (@SenatorLeahy) August 23, 2013
Leahy’s love of the DC Comics superhero is well known to his colleagues. Last December, Republican Sen. Mike Lee gave him a Batman snuggie. At the time Lee’s spokesman said, “[Senator Lee] thought it was appropriate given Senator Leahy’s cameo in The Dark Knight, and since he’s from the chilly state of Vermont.”
As Captiol Hill’s own Batman expert, Leahy has appeared in three Batman films—most recently as a Wayne Enterprises board member in last year’s The Dark Knight Rises. The Vermont Democrat also made an appearance in Joel Schumacher’s franchise killer Batman & Robin and has also voiced a character on Batman: The Animated Series.
