THOMASVILLE, N.C. – The man who captured attention by clinging to the back of car traveling along Interstate 77 in Charlotte a few weeks ago has been identified by police. Police say Rakeen Loverette barricaded himself inside a home on Reid Street in Thomasville, N.C. He is the same man who rode on top of a car’s trunk as the driver continued down the interstate, according to investigators. Davidson County EMS 911 Telecommunicators told WFMY News 2 the call came in as a domestic issue around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. The suspect did not live inside the home that he barricaded himself in. Loverette is wanted for multiple charges from Charlotte-Mecklenburg police. U.S. Marshals were also looking for him. On Saturday, June 28, 2014 several motorists watched in disbelief and called 911 after seeing a man clinging to a car's trunk. “I need you to get an officer out here on 77. There is a car going up the road that's got a guy sitting on the back of the spoiler,” said a caller into 911. NBC Charlotte obtained video of the incident from one of the drivers witnessing the scene. His wife shot the video while their son called 911. CMPD says the incident started out as a domestic dispute outside a shoe store and wound up on the interstate between Clanton Road and Tyvola Road.
