Police, firefighters, and teachers were at San Luis Obispo High School Wednesday afternoon for an active shooter training.
Teachers, staff, and law enforcement practiced what to do if a gunman were to get on campus.
Officers used simulated explosives and gunfire.
San Luis Obispo Police Chief Steve Gesell says, "There are several objectives, one of which is to prepare the school staff to respond to a similar situation, which, the unfortunate reality in America, we see these play out time and time again."
San Luis Obispo Fire Department Chief Garret Olsont says, "It's an opportunity for educators to see that their public safety officers take this very, very seriously, are developing plans, and are quite proficient in those plans to provide safe operations in our community."
School starts next Monday.
