A father fatally stabbed his two young children and seriously wounded three others with a hunting knife before committing suicide by slitting his own throat, police said.
The father, Clarence Lacey Moore, 24, and the five children were found in a home in south Columbus after Wednesday’s attack, police said.
Clarence Smith Moore, 1, died on the floor by his bed, county coroner James Dunnavant told the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer. Two-year-old Stephan Smith Moore died in a hospital.
Three other children ranging in age from 3 to 7 underwent surgery at The Medical Center, said spokeswoman Marion Scott. Two were in critical condition and the third was in unsatisfactory condition, she said.
Beverly Moore, the mother of all five children, was not injured, said police Maj. Russell Traino. It was not immediately clear whether the three wounded children were related to Clarence Moore.
Columbus is in western Georgia on the Alabama state line.
