A suicide car bomb explosion in Baghdad killed an Iraqi child and injured at least four other people on Tuesday, officials said. Elsewhere, a U.S. Marine was killed in action in Iraq’s western al Anbar province, the U.S. military said on Tuesday,
Tuesday's explosion occurred near Bab al-Muadhim, a compound of several medical hospitals in northeastern Baghdad, police Col. Muhanad Sadoun said.
The bomber also died in the blast.
The bomber was trying to hit a traffic police patrol in the area but crashed into a tree by accident, Sadoun said. One of the four wounded was a policeman.
The U.S. military said in a statement a soldier with the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force was killed on Monday. It gave no details about the incident on grounds it could put U.S. forces at greater risk from guerrilla attack.
More than 1,500 U.S. soldiers have been killed in action in Iraq since U.S.-led forces invaded in March 2003 to topple Saddam Hussein.
