A middle school teacher charged with having sex with four children under the age of 16 had her resignation unanimously accepted by the school board.
The Braxton County school board’s action Monday came a day before Toni Lynn Woods, 37, was expected to appear for a preliminary hearing on eight charges of third-degree sexual assault.
“This will ensure that she never teaches in the state of West Virginia or probably any state ever again,” Braxton County Superintendent Carolyn Long said after the county board’s action. Woods had previously surrendered her teaching certificate.
Woods confessed to having sexual intercourse with three juveniles a total of four times and oral sex with one of those juveniles and another juvenile a total of four times, according to a criminal complaint.
It is a crime in West Virginia for an adult to have sex with someone who is under 16 if the adult is at least four years older than the juvenile and is not married to the juvenile.
