Online retailer Amazon.com has selected travel search engine Sidestep.com as the new travel search engine for its travel store, Sidestep said on Thursday.

The partnership, which begins early next year, will give Sidestep access to Amazon’s more then 52 million customer accounts, Sidestep said.

Santa Clara, Califonia-based Sidestep offers a service that hunts for cheap travel fares for customers. Unlike online travel agencies, Expedia Inc. and Travelocity which sell tickets and hotel and car reservations, travel search engines locate the bookings and direct users to Web sites that sell them.

Sidestep will replace Hotwire.com as the travel search engine at Amazon’s travel store.
