Fan death: Why Korean parents think the breeze might kill you


Left Field contributor Yohan Yoon noticed that his Korean-American parents kept opening the door to his room whenever he slept with the fan on. He later discovered that many South Koreans (his parents included) believe that if you leave an electric fan on in an enclosed room, it could suck out all the air and kill you. So what’s behind this superstition and what role does culture play?
