How an algorithm is using Google Street View images to predict voting patterns
A new study from Stanford University shows how a complex algorithm can identify cars in Google Street View images – and predict the area residents’ voting patterns, as well as income, race, and education. The researchers say their algorithm could improve on that door-to-door canvassing, making it cheaper and faster. So the next time you hear predictions about how your town will vote in the next election, just know that the real pollster is…the algorithm.
