NASA is kicking off a new project called Subsea — Systematic Underwater Biogeochemical Science and Exploration Analog. Its main objective is to explore the environmental conditions in and around the Lō`ihi seamount. The region contains an extensive network of hydrothermal vents making it a rich oasis of biodiversity. Scientists believe that these conditions are similar to what might exist on Saturn’s moon Enceladus.Sept. 8, 2018
