Jan. 5 – Sec. Mike Pompeo, Sen. Mark Warner, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, and Richard Engel

Tensions escalate between Iran and the United States after President Trump authorized a drone strike which killed General Qassem Soleimani, a destabilizing force in the region. NBC News Chief Foreign Correspondent Richard Engel reports from Iraq that people in Tehran are uniting behind the government. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said killing Soleimani was the right decision because the risks of doing nothing exceed the risks that came with the strike. Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) explained while Soleimani was a real threat, it’s unclear whether or not he was an imminent threat. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) discusses the president’s decision to kill Soleimani and Trump’s upcoming impeachment trial. Kasie Hunt, Jeh Johnson. Betsy Woodruff Swan and Pat McCrory join the panel.
