Sen. Joe McCarthy (R-Wis.) joined “Meet the Press” on October 3, 1954 to discuss his criticisms of President Eisenhower’s administration and his response to the Cold War. McCarthy served in his Senate seat from 1947 until his death in 1957. He is known for a period of U.S. politics referred to as “McCarthyism” and the Red Scare, which stemmed from the senator’s deep fear of communism.
