Police in Kansas City, Missouri, have released surveillance video showing the moment when a man standing on the sidewalk opened fire on a city bus, hitting a 15-year-old girl sitting inside. It happened the afternoon of Dec. 30, reported NBC affiliate KSHB. The suspect, wearing a hooded sweatshirt, is seen pulling the firearm from his pocket and spraying what sounds like at least six bullets before running away. The Kansas City Area Transportation Authority released the video Tuesday.

The unidentified teenage girl and her boyfriend scrambled for cover, but she was hit by one of the bullets, police said. She was rushed to a local hospital and survived. Kansas City police are searching for the shooter, and say they think either the victim's boyfriend was the target or the victim herself knew the suspect. "We’re still putting together the pieces of the puzzle, but from what we understand is that this was not a random act," Capt. Derek McCollum told KSHB.
