A new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll shows that both the Democratic and Republican parties — not to mention both parties' presumptive presidential nominees — continue to be significantly unpopular with voters even as some of the country's more controversial institutions stay above water. 2. Brexit Wiped $2 Trillion Off Markets
The $2.08 trillion wiped off global equity markets on Friday after Britain voted to leave the European Union was the biggest daily loss ever, according to Standard & Poor's Dow Jones Indices. It trumped even the Lehman Brothers bankruptcy during the 2008 financial crisis and the Black Monday stock market crash of 1987. Read more in BUSINESS.
3. 10 Injured During White Nationalist Rally
Ten people were injured during a white nationalist protest and counter-protest Sunday near the steps of the California state Capitol in Sacramento, authorities said. Five to seven people were stabbed during the melee, California Highway Patrol Officer George Granada told NBC News. All were expected to survive, Sacramento police spokesman Matthew McPhail told NBC News. Read more in NEWS.
4. At Least 25 Dead in Devastating West Virginia Floods
The sun finally made an appearance Sunday in rain-weary West Virginia, where floods have killed at least 25 people and destroyed dozens of homes. The break in rain and receding floodwaters allowed for search and rescue teams to go door-to-door, finally, to search for people who hadn't been heard from since the downpours began Thursday. 5. Death Toll Could Rise in Central California Wildfire
A raging central California wildfire that has already killed two people and destroyed 200 structures was still burning Sunday, and "additional fatalities are possible," authorities said. The Erskine Fire in Kern County, north of Los Angeles, which grew from 37,000 acres to 43,360 acres Sunday and was 40 percent contained. Read more in NEWS.
6. 10 Hurt in Scottish Roller Coaster Derailment
Eight children and two adults were injured after a roller coaster derailed and fell off the tracks at an amusement park Sunday afternoon in Scotland, police said. Lanarkshire police said the ride, made up of gondolas in a train and carrying nine people, detached from its rails, struck the ride's main structure and crashed into the ground. Read more in NEWS.
7. Cuban Migrants With "Machetes and Knives" Come Ashore in Florida
Police said a group of Cuban migrants reached shore on Hollywood Beach, Florida Saturday afternoon. Officials said the migrants appeared to be armed with machetes and large knives and were threatening to harm themselves if their boat was stopped. Read more at NBC MIAMI.
