1. Oil refineries targets of ISIS bombings

A dozen oil refineries in Syria were hit by the U.S. and its Arab allies on Wednesday as part of attempts to cripple the terror network’s financial center. These ISIS-controlled refineries rake in about $1 million per day in sales in the black market. This latest operation comes as U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron said he would call on his government to authorize airstrikes against ISIS in Iraq, which the U.S. and France has already been doing in coordination with Iraqi forces. Meanwhile, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, who’s called the airstrikes in Syria illegal, will address the U.N. General Assembly at 9 a.m. ET. Read more in NEWS.

2. Suspect caught in Hannah Graham case

Elusive suspect Jesse Matthew, 32, was captured on a Texas beach and charged with abduction with intent to defile in the disappearance of Graham, 18. The University of Virginia student has been missing for almost two weeks, and authorities continued to ask for the public’s help in locating her. Arresting Matthew is a crucial part of the process, Charlottesville, Virginia, police said, because he’s believed to be the last person who saw her alive. Read more in NEWS.

3. Soiled diaper a clue in finding shooting suspect

Alleged shooter Eric Frein is still believed to be hiding out in the woods of Pennsylvania, and authorities say he’s even been spotted from a safe distance. “Some of this is a game to him,” State Police Lt. Col. George Bivens said at a news conference Wednesday. Frein, 31, is accused of gunning down two troopers during a Sept. 12 ambush at their barracks. His motive remains unclear, and police have been scouring the woods for him. They say soiled diapers and Serbian cigarettes are evidence that he’s lingering. Read more in NEWS.

4. Tony Stewart won’t be charged in race death

The three-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champ won’t face any criminal charges in the death of fellow racer Kevin Ward Jr. during an August race. A grand jury said it found no evidence for either manslaughter in the second degree or criminally negligent homicide. Stewart had fatally struck Ward after Ward walked out of his car to confront Stewart for earlier hitting his vehicle during the race. Ward’s family can still pursue other legal actions against Stewart. Read more at NBC SPORTS.

5. ESPN suspends analyst Bill Simmons for rant

The popular sportswriter and host has been suspended for three weeks after repeatedly calling NFL Commissioner a liar during an obscenity-laced podcast. “Every employee must be accountable to ESPN and those engaged in our editorial operations must also operate within ESPN’s journalistic standards,” ESPN said in a statement. “Bill Simmons did not meet those obligations in a recent podcast, and as a result we have suspended him for three weeks.” Simmons accused Goodell of knowing more about the video of Ray Rice knocking out his now-wife in a casino elevator. Goodell has been facing calls for his resignation over the handling of Rice’s suspension. Read more at NBC SPORTS.

6. Apple bruised after iOS glitch, bending phone

Despite the much-ballyhooed release of the latest iPhone 6 and smart watch, it’s been a bad week for Apple. The tech giant said Wednesday it will yank its iOS 8.01 update after complaints that people can’t access cell service or the TouchID feature. Scores of users complained on Twitter about issues with the first update to iOS 8, Apple’s most recent operating system. Apple is also getting criticized for the new iPhone model being vulnerable to bending. Read more in TECH.
