HBO Documentary Brings "The Latin Explosion" to America

 / Updated

The evolution of Latino music and entertainment - from "pioneers" like Celia Cruz, Desi Arnaz and Carlos Santana to Pitbull, Romeo Santos and Shakira - as well as the growing clout of the country's Hispanic presence is the topic of the new documentary “The Latin Explosion: The New America,” premiering Monday night, November 16 on HBO and HBO Latino at 9pET.

The film, created by renowned producer Tommy Mottola, features artists including Marc Anthony, Gloria and Emilio Estefan, Eva Longoria, George Lopez, Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin, Rita Moreno, Pitbull, Romeo Santos, Shakira, Sofía Vergara and others.

Mottola told TODAY’s Natalie Morales that people don’t fully understand the importance and power of the Latin community and culture. “You’re talking about a demographic that is still considered a minority but is really becoming a majority very quickly,” he said, “There are 50 million Latinos here who have the ability to spend a trillion through a year, making the world’s 15th largest economy.”
