Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump said that if he were face to face with Pope Francis and the Pope criticized some aspects of capitalism, his response would be to scare him about ISIS.
"I'm gonna have to scare the Pope because it's the only thing," Trump said, in an interview with CNN's Chris Cuomo. "The Pope, I hope, can only be scared by God. But the truth is -- you know, if you look at what's going on -- they better hope that capitalism works, because it's the only thing we have right now. And it's a great thing when it works properly."
Trump said to Cuomo, "You know that ISIS wants to go in and take over the Vatican? You have heard that. You know, that's a dream of theirs, to go into Italy," he said.
Pope Francis has urged world political leaders to tackle the rising inequality as well as the environmental repercussions of global capitalism. But in the interview, Trump did not acknowledge there was a downside to capitalism and in fact criticized the regulations that are imposed on companies and individuals.
