NBC Latino contributor and political scientist Victoria DeFrancesco Soto joined Mika Brzezinski on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" to discuss presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump's chances of snagging a certain portion of the Latino electorate.
In an op-ed published in NBC News Latino called "Opinion: Think Trump Won't Get Latino Voters? Not So Fast," DeFrancesco Soto said Trump could potentially get a least a quarter and maybe up to 30 percent of the Latino vote, including some Latino Republicans and Independents.
"Just recently we've seen Donald Trump in a recent video address to the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference talk about how unfair it is that Latinos are living in high crime rates, and that minority unemployment needs to be addressed," Soto said. "So, I think that's his 'in' with Latinos," she said, also noting that his "aspirational" message of wealth resonates will resonate with some voters, including Latinos.
