KABUL, Afghanistan — A suicide attacker blew himself up at a mosque in the Dashti Archi district Friday morning, police officials and Kunduz province Gov. Anwar Jihdalak told NBC News.

The governor of the district was killed in the attack along with some of his bodyguards and multiple civilians, they said. Some investigators believe the governor may have been the primary target of the attack.

Eyewitnesses reported that at least 25 civilians were killed. Jihdalak said officials were still determining an official death toll.
