Jerome Matthew Orlando, a 33-year-old from Broadway, Va., crashed the 1968 Piper he was piloting in foggy conditions near the WaWa market and gas station near Shannon Airport on Monday, Aug. 12, in Spotsylvania, Va. Orlando had left Tampa en route to Chartlottesville when he diverted to Stafford Airport due to bad weather conditions. Orlando then determined he did not have enough fuel to make it to Stafford so instead tried to make his landing at Shannon Airport.Dave Ellis / The Free Lance Star via APJerome Matthew Orlando makes a phone call near the wreckage of the Piper airplane he crash landed on the grounds of WaWa on Tidewater Trail, after his small plane ran out of fuel on Monday Shannon Airport.Suzanne Carr Rossi / The Free Lance Star va APThe crashed airplane is hauled to Shannon Airport along Tidewater Trail on Monday afternoon.Dave Ellis / The Free Lance Star via AP
