Golf superstar Rory McIlroy said Monday that he tore a ligament in his left ankle but gave no indication on how long he would be unable to compete.
McIlroy posted a picture on Instagram of himself with crutches and a boot on his left foot, saying the injury occurred while playing soccer with friends on Saturday.
"Continuing to assess extent of injury and treatment plan day by day," he said in the post. "Rehab already started..... Working hard to get back as soon as I can."
McIlroy, 26, is ranked the No. 1 golfer in the world. He won both the Open Championship and the PGA Championship last year.
