Police were searching for a suspect after a person was killed and seven other people were injured after a shooting broke out at an after-hours party in Omaha, Nebraska, on Sunday.
Officers responded to reports of a shooting around 4 a.m. local time (5 a.m. ET) and found two victims with apparent gunshot wounds, Omaha police said in a news release. Both were taken to the Nebraska Medical Center, where one was pronounced dead.
“Six additional victims arrived by private vehicle at the Nebraska Medical Center and CUMC-Bergan Mercy Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries,” the release said.
The shooting was believed to have occurred after a confrontation at an after-hours party escalated, Police Chief Todd Schmaderer said later in an update.
"There is no indication it was a random shooting," he said.
An investigation continues, with police urging anyone with information to come forward.
“It is imperative OPD pieces together what took place so resolve can come for the victims and their families," Schmaderer said.
