Someone in a vehicle opened fire on another vehicle carrying six minors and an adult Friday night. No suspects are in custody, police said.

A 5-year-old was killed and two other minors were injured Friday night in a drive-by shooting in Tempe, Arizona, police said.

Tempe police responded to a shooting in the area of West Broadway Road and South 52nd Street at around 11:45 p.m.

Officers found that someone in a vehicle opened fire on a car carrying an adult and six minors, which was traveling eastbound on Broadway Road from 48th Street, police said. The suspect vehicle "immediately fled the scene."

Three injured minors from the victims' vehicle were taken to a hospital, where the 5-year-old was pronounced dead.

No suspects are in custody, and a motive is not known, said police, who said they believe it was an isolated incident.

"This is an ongoing investigation and there is nothing further to add at this time," police said in a statement.
