Andrea Slade, 32, turned herself in to police on Friday, but no charges were immediately announced, reported NBC affiliate WPMI. Slade, a married mother of two, is an eighth grade science teacher at Hankins Middle School.

"We take these complaints very seriously. When an incident like this occurs, we act immediately," Mobile County Public School Superintendent Martha Peek told WPMI.

Slade told police that she had sent the selfie to her husband and that a student somehow got a hold of her phone and shared it. But authorities say there's evidence showing that she was the one who sent the picture to a student over the summer.

Slade has not had any prior complaints, Peek said, but the investigation remains ongoing. The teacher has been placed on paid administrative leave ahead of her Sept. 8 court date.
