Residents of a small Alaska city can once again come and go as they please after the reopening of the sole highway in and out of the town.
The port city of Valdez announced on Wednesday that the Richardson highway, closed since a series of landslides on Jan. 24 and 25 sent debris crashing down onto it, was once again open to commercial and passenger traffic.
On Tuesday, state transportation officials said the 50 mile stretch of highway had passed multiple stability tests, and announced its intention to reopen the road.
