Police have confirmed that a body found Wednesday is that of a Texas teen who vanished the same weekend that her father's body was found badly burned near a ditch.
Adriana Coronado Cavazos, 14, was last seen with her father, Cesar Vladimir Coronado, whose body was found in Walker County on Sunday. Police believe the teen was with her father when he was shot several times and then burned.
Authorities believed Adriana was kidnapped and killed by the same person who killed her father, but they haven't identified a suspect.
The body later confirmed to be that of Adriana was found in Houston by a gardener weeding a roadway Friday, Houston police said.
"At first I thought it was a doll, you know like a doll, the one they put in the store. But then I realized it was a human, I mean a person," the gardener, Luke Rios, told NBC affiliate KPRC.
The Houston Police Department said the body had likely been on the side of the roadway for anywhere from one to two days, and Adriana was identified by a bracelet found on her body, according to KPRC. She died of multiple gunshot wounds, the station reported.
Investigators hope that surveillance video from an area where Cesar Vladimir Coronado's truck was found burned will provide a break in the case.
