Police arrested a North Carolina man after a 4-year-old boy died of a gunshot wound Wednesday, NBC affiliate WCNC of Charlotte reported.
Police arrested Dayshawn St. Paul Warren — who multiple sources told WCNC is the boy's father — and charged him with involuntary manslaughter and selling or giving a weapon to a minor in connection, the station reported.
Authorities responded to the scene on Charleston Place, in southeast Charlotte, around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said in a statement. The boy was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Police said earlier that they were investigating after they walked back their initial determination that the gunshot wound was self-inflicted, WCNC reported.
Police could not immediately be reached for comment.
