"Tanorexia" is real and it's more about getting a hit of the sun's sweet rays than attaining the perfect bronze skin tone, according to a new study.
Researchersfound the ultraviolet radiation that triggers skin darkening can also cause an endorphin release that produces the same euphoric feeling caused by opiate drugs, but it can also lead to withdrawals.
Although the study was conducted on mice, experts say this UV craving may explain why some people continue to sunbathe and visit tanning beds despite the risk of cancer and skin damage. (Here's looking at you, 'Tan Mom.')
