A sheriff's deputy and a civilian were shot in Carter County, Tennessee, and a suspect remained barricaded late Wednesday night, authorities told NBC News.
Few details, including the conditions of the injured, were immediately available as the standoff continued to unfold. Sheriff's Sgt. Michael Carlock said multiple officers were on the scene and were still working on detaining the suspect at midnight Thursday.
The state Highway Patrol told NBC station WCYB of neighboring Bristol, Virginia, that shots were fired about 9:30 p.m. ET near the Stoney Creek community in Carter County, in east Tennessee. The area has been closed and locked down, authorities said.
