A 54-year-old man remains in critical condition Friday after he was beaten by a mob in Detroit, Mich., when he accidentally struck a 10-year-old boy with his vehicle on Wednesday, according to police.
Between 10 and 12 males — believed to be juveniles — attacked the man on Wednesday afternoon after a young boy stepped off the curb and into the path of his pickup truck, said Detroit Police Officer Jennifer Moreno.
No arrests have been made in the incident, and the attackers do not appear to be related to the young victim, said Moreno.
The boy suffered a broken leg, but was released from the hospital on Thursday.
His father was brought into custody on an unrelated warrant, Detroit Police Sgt. Michael Woody told The Associated Press.
"At this time, he is not a suspect" in the attack, Woody said.
Moreno said the driver, who has not been identified, will not be charged. “The gentleman had no chance of stopping.”
The Detroit Police Department has asked witnesses to call in with information on the attack.
