Three police deputies in Florida prevented a man from jumping off a bridge in a suicide attempt Sunday, authorities said.
In a release, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said the three deputies responded to the Bay Pines Bridge just before 10 a.m. to attempt to save the life of an unidentified 24-year-old man standing on the bridge's railing.
A sheriff's sergeant initially tried to talk the subject off the railing, "but deputies say it quickly became evident that the subject intended to jump," the release said. That's when a deputy approached the man from a blind spot and managed to pull him off the railing.
The man suffered only minor injuries when he fell to the roadway. Deputies said he was initially combative, but an electronic control device subdued him, the release said. The man, who later thanked the deputies for grabbing him off the railing, was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
