Four Killed When Small Plane Crashes Near New Mexico Fairground

The small plane was engulfed in flames after it crashed near the Southern New Mexico Fair Ground in Las Cruces. The fair doesn't open until Oct. 1.

All four people aboard a small plane were killed Wednesday night when the twin-engine craft crashed shortly after takeoff near the Southern New Mexico Fair Grounds in Las Cruces, state police said.

The plane, a twin-engine fixed-winged aircraft flying from Las Cruces to Phoenix, was fully engulfed in flames after it crashed about a mile south of Interstate 10, state police said. There were no immediate reports of injuries on the ground in the crash, which occurred about 7 p.m. (9 p.m. ET). The annual fair doesn't open until Oct. 1.
