The cast of Broadway's hot-ticket musical "Hamilton" took its sold-out show from the Great White Way to the White House on Monday, where the star and creator of the musical showed off his freestyle rap skills in the Rose Garden.

A video posted by the official White House Twitter account on Monday shows Lin-Manuel Miranda rapping to a live drum beat as President Obama prompts him with cue cards the performer says he hadn't glimpsed beforehand.

"I hope I don't drop these cards," Obama says, adding to the drummer: "Drop the beat!"

As Miranda wraps his minute-long performance, even the president is impressed.

"How good is that? You think that's going viral? That's going viral!" he says.

The cast spent an entire day at the White House, where first lady Michelle Obama hosted a student workshop and a performance of select songs from "Hamilton."

"Hamilton" is the story of America's Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, who became George Washington's right-hand man during the Revolutionary War.
