Three people were seriously injured when their hot air balloon hit power lines in southeastern Pennsylvania, police said early Sunday.

New Holland Police said it appears the pilot was trying to land the balloon in a hay field on Saturday evening and as the basket touched the ground, the top of the balloon fell onto power lines.

The three people in the balloon — a 55-year-old male pilot, a 53-year-old male passenger and 48-year-old female passenger — were taken to a local hospital with "severe" injuries, police said in a statement. All three appeared to have suffered injuries from electrical shock, the statement added.

No one on the ground was injured. The FAA will be investigating the incident, police added.
