Indianapolis Homeowner Fatally Shoots Brother During Burglary: Cops

An homeowner shot and killed a burglar who turned out to be his brother, Indianapolis police said.

Police responded to a call on Saturday at about 12:15 p.m. from a homeowner saying he had shot an intruder after discovering broken windows and a burglar inside his home. The intruder was unconscious when authorities arrived and was later pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

The homeowner had first called police out of fear that the intruder had located his firearms inside the home, but confronted the intruder before officers arrived. Police said that investigators on the scene later learned the two men were brothers. The deceased had prior felony convictions and arrests for possession of a handgun and possession of stolen property, police added.
