A "person of interest" has been detained in relation to the shooting of a Texas state judge, police said late Monday.

District Judge Julie Kocurek suffered an "extremely serious" injury when she was shot in the driveway of her Austin home last week, according to investigators.

Austin Police said Monday it was "aware" that a person of interest in Kocurek's shooting had been arrested in Houston.

"The arrest was for unrelated charges and we will not make any further comments at this time," the force said in a brief statement.

There was no immediate comment from Houston Police.

Kocurek previously had received threats over cases where she had been a presiding judge and authorities have been poring over records of previous cases in wake of the shooting.

She remains hospitalized and her family said in a statement Monday that her condition has been improving "everyday."

A former prosecutor, Kocurek was appointed to the 390th District court in Travis County by then-Gov. George W. Bush in 1999. She later became the only Republican elected to a state district judgeship in the left-leaning county but switched parties and became a Democrat in 2006, according to The Associated Press.
