A Colorado man faces a murder charge in the death of his fiancée’s mother, whose dismembered body was found last week.

The mother, Jackie Degarmo, 55, had been reported missing in April. Her body, wrapped in a blue tarp with the head and hands detached, was spotted by hikers, police in Englewood told NBC affiliate KUSA.

John Brant, 32, was arrested Monday and charged with second-degree murder. He claimed that Degarmo had threatened to shoot him and his fiancée with a BB gun, KUSA reported.

The fiancée, Alisia Blythe, told detectives that Brant strangled her mother and then dragged the body out of the home that the three shared, according to an affidavit obtained by KUSA.

Detectives used a tattoo to identify the body.

Investigators have not specified when the woman was killed. Brant is being held on $500,000 bond.
