A man shot by police outside a Dallas airport Friday was charged with two counts related to the incident Saturday, a police spokesperson said.
Shawn Diamond, 29, was still hospitalized Saturday after being shot outside a baggage claim area at Dallas Love Field Airport, police said. He was charged with a count each of assault related to family violence and aggravated assault on a public servant.
Police said Diamond advanced at at a police officer in with a rock in each hand and made "a quick approach directly at the officer" before he was shot at around noon.
Surveillance video released by police shows a man identified as Diamond beating a car with a traffic cone before grabbing rocks and approaching the airport. Police said he struck his ex-girlfriend and the mother of his children, and described the events preceding the shooting as a domestic disturbance.
Witnesses reported that Diamond told police “you are going to have to shoot me,” police said.
The shooting sparked a panic that sent some people running through security lines without being screened, and resulted in everyone being rechecked, which caused flight delays, officials said.
