Four people, including three 14-year-old girls, were wounded when a barefoot man walked up to their SUV and shot them Friday in Nashville, Tenn., police said. Three of the victims were in critical condition.
Police helicopters and K9 units were seeking Earnest Moore, 39, a convicted murderer who was described as the boyfriend of one of the victims. Police told NBC station WSMV of Nashville that Moore fled the scene wearing a gray T-shirt, blue shorts and no shoes.
Nicole Luke, 34, one of her twin 14-year-old daughters and a 14-year-old family friend were reported in critical condition. Luke's other twin daughter was reported to be stable with less serious wounds.
They were shot outside an apartment complex in the Madison neighborhood of northeast Nashville. Three other children who were at the scene weren't injured: Moore's and Luke's 3-year-old daughter and two boys, ages 7 and 13, the Tennessean newspaper of Nashville reported.
A witness, Courtney Hiles, told WSMV that she first heard two gunshots and then four more.
"We went outside and saw the man running past our house, so we went over here to see what had happened and we saw the car," Hiles said. "There was a lady in the front seat, and she had been shot, and all of the windows in the car had been shot out."
The case is being investigated as a possible case of domestic violence, police said. They said Moore should be considered armed and extremely dangerous.
Nashville police said Moore has a long criminal record, including a conviction for second-degree murder in Shelby County in 1991.
