The Lehigh County coroner told NBC Philadelphia that one person was dead after the accident about 5:50 p.m. ET on westbound U.S. Route 22 near the Lehigh-Northampton county line.

The Brown and White, the Lehigh student newspaper, and the Express-Times newspaper of Easton quoted witnesses as saying the person who was killed was in the car.

A spokeswoman for Lehigh University told NBC News that said none of the 20 students on the bus were believed to have been seriously injured. All were being evaluated at hospitals, she said.

No further details were immediately available.
