Earlier, her 26-year-old husband had driven past another SUV that was driving slowly. Authorities say that vehicle then caught up to the couple and someone fired at least one shot from inside. The teen was struck in her left eye.

Her husband turned the vehicle around and with the help of a passerby called 911. The woman was taken to a local hospital and then airlifted for emergency surgery, officials said. She is three months' pregnant but the condition of the baby was unknown.

Detectives do not believe the couple provoked the shooting and are continuing to investigate what may have prompted the attack.

The shot was fired from a vehicle described as a light brown colored 2006 – 2012 Chevy Tahoe, Suburban or GMC Yukon, investigators said.
