Two young sisters and their teenage babysitter drowned in the swimming pool of a Colorado mobile home park, according to police.
The tragedy unfolded Monday afternoon in the Pueblo Grande Village in Pueblo, Colorado.
"Apartments, complexes, anything — they should have a lifeguard"
Authorities said officers responded to a call about a drowning shortly after 2 p.m. local time and located three victims — sisters aged two and five along with a 17-year-old sitter.
"Despite CPR efforts by officers and others in an attempt to revive the victims, the three were later pronounced dead," the Pueblo Police Department said in a statement.
The force did not identify the victims but said an investigation was ongoing.
There was no immediate comment from the mobile-home park. Some locals told NBC affiliate KOAA that signs warning people to swim at their own risk were not enough.
"Apartments, complexes, anything — they should have a lifeguard," Dora Moncayo, who lives in park, told KOAA. "It's the first thing we need to have."
